Baby's First Christmas

Buon Natale! Santa was good to me on my first Christmas. I got lots of clothes, some books and a few toys. I think I'll really like the wrapping paper next year! Mommy, Daddy, Auntie Tini and I had a nice afternoon opening our gifts, and we had a nice evening with all our good friends. The Hansens, Tatros and Jacobs all came over for dinner. I gave Mommy and Daddy a very nice and unexpected gift Christmas night - I slept from 11:30 to 7! I was so tired from all the festivities. I'm looking forward to being in the States next year with all my relatives and friends. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

Six Weeks Old

I'm six weeks old! I've been having lots of fun with my Auntie Tini! She's my mom's little sister. I'm so glad she came to visit me! I am still growing a lot. Some of my clothes are almost too small. I started smiling last week! Well, I mean real smiles... not "I'm pooping" smiles. I am getting so excited for Christmas. I love looking at the tree and all the lights. I wonder what Santa will bring for me....

Il Ristorante Italiano

Buongiorno! Mommy, Daddy and I went to an Italian restaurant with our friends Trent, Coleen and Currier. We live near a small town called Motta Sant'Anastasia, so we drove up and went to Dal Buongustaio. It's a favorite of all the Americans who live here in Sicily. I had the delicious "Latte di Mamma". Currier tried to read the dessert menu to me, but I wasn't interested. He and his family are getting ready to move back to the States, which is too bad... we'll miss them a lot!

Five Weeks Old

I've graduated from Newborn to Size 1 diapers. Hooray!

Uh-Oh Cannolo!

So, my mom was holding me in the Moby wrap, and she thought it was a good idea to eat a powdered sugar-covered cannolo! A cannolo (cannoli is plural) is a fried pastry tube stuffed with ricotta cream or custard - a Sicilian specialty. Anyway, she took a bite and it was snowing powdered sugar all over me! It's hard to see in the picture, but I had powdered sugar all over my head and on my face. Both Mommy and I had our shirts dusted, too. You might be able to see all the sugar on Mommy's face. Daddy thought we looked so funny; he just had to get a picture! That little bit of sugar that fell on my mouth was yummy. Too bad I won't get to taste it again for a while!

Ho Ho Ho!

I met Santa today! I told him I want milk for Christmas. I hope he understood my crying! I'm so glad Santa came to Sigonella to see us. I forgot to ask him how he's going to get into our house on Christmas Eve since we don't have a fireplace! Maybe if he sucks in his belly, he can fit underneath the front door?

One Month Old

I'm a whole month old! I know that's not much older than four weeks, but I have some new stats I wanted to share with you. I'm now 9 pounds 14 ounces and 22 1/4 inches long! Mommy and Daddy knew I was growing a lot, but I think they were pretty surprised to find out just how much! I finally ventured out of the house to a Christmas party for Daddy and his coworkers. I slept through the entire thing, but at least I left the house!

Four Weeks Old

I turned 4 weeks old on December 9! I wore these same pajamas home from the hospital, and they were so big on me. Now they fit me just right, which means I'm growing a lot! Now that I'm about a month old, we might start venturing out more... maybe to an Italian restaurant or to the grocery store. Stay tuned for my upcoming adventures!

Saint Andrew

November 30 was my name day! My Papa celebrated Divine Liturgy for the feast of St. Andrew at our church back home and said a special prayer for me and all other Andrews in our church. Here is the story of St. Andrew...

St. Andrew, whose feast day is November 30th, is the patron saint for fishermen. Andrew, like his brother, Simon Peter, was a fisherman. He became a disciple of the great Saint John the Baptist, but when John pointed to Jesus and said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" Saint Andrew understood that Jesus was greater. At once he left Saint John to follow the Divine Master. Jesus knew that Saint Andrew was walking behind him, and turning back, he asked, "What do you seek?" When Saint Andrew answered that he would like to know where Jesus lived, Our Lord replied, "Come and see." Saint Andrew had been only a little time with Jesus when he realized that this was truly the Messiah.
From then on, he decided to follow Jesus. Saint Andrew was thus the first disciple of Christ. Next, he brought his brother Simon (Saint Peter) to Jesus and Jesus received him, too, as His disciple. At first the two brothers continued to carry on their fishing trade and family affairs, but later, the Lord called them to stay with Him all the time. He promised to make them fishers of men, and this time, they left their nets for good. It is believed that after Our Lord ascended into Heaven, Saint Andrew went to Greece to preach the gospel. He was put to death on a cross, to which he was tied, not nailed. He lived two days in that state of suffering, still preaching to the people who gathered around their beloved Apostle.
