One very special part of my trip to California was a visit with my great uncle - Sergeant Jim O'Callaghan of the Fairfax Police Department. Uncle Jim gave me an intimate tour of a cop car!
I really loved seeing the lights. Uncle Jim said he hoped I'd never see those in my rearview mirror, but come on! I'm an O'Callaghan - I'm bound to get my share of speeding tickets! Uncle Jim put me under arrest and threw me (gently!) into the backseat of the car. I peered out of the barred windows and dreamed of my freedom, which was soon to come.
Thanks, Uncle Jim! That was so much fun! Let's hope it's my last run-in with the cops for a while...

Fairfax is a small town in Marin County that has special significance for my family. When my Nana's grandfather, Henry Frustuck, came to San Francisco from Germany, he owned a bar in San Francisco called the Palmgarden. He bought a large portion of the town of Fairfax and had a summer home on the hill there. Back in those days, there was no Golden Gate Bridge, so they had to come to Marin by boat!

My great great great grandfather donated some of his Fairfax land to the city, which is now a park. Our family was left with a large lot on the hill above the Frustuck home. There were plans to build a new family home there, but with a misunderstanding, the land was accidentally sold about 10 years ago. Now all that remains of our family are a few street signs in Fairfax named after family members and the summer home which is inhabited by some crazy man!
